Based on the universally popular poetry of T.S. Eliot, Cats tells the story, in song and dance, of the annual gathering of Jellicle cats at which time one special cat is selected to ascend to the Heaviside layer.
A true musical theatre phenomenon, Cats opened at London's New London Theatre on 11 May, 1981 and ran for a record-setting twenty-one years. Cats’ London success was nearly matched on Broadway where it ran at the Winter Garden Theatre for just over eighteen years.
Since its world premiere, it has been presented in over 30 countries, has been translated into 15 languages and has been seen by more than 73 million people worldwide.
Cats’ best known song is Memory which has been recorded by numerous artists and is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's most famous compositions - a runaway hit with a life far beyond the musical.
Auditions for Cats will take place on 22 and 23 June 2019. See the Auditions page in May for further information.
Cats plays at the Schonell Theatre from 25 October – 3 November 2019. Tickets will go on sale in July.
