Dear Theatre-goer,
The piracy of original musical works is not just confined to the modern phenomena of the computer and the iPOD. After the sensational success of H.M.S. Pinafore, many American performing companies presented unauthorized versions of that opera. Gilbert, Sullivan and Carte decided to prevent that from happening again by presenting official versions of their next opera, The Pirates of Penzance, (there's that word 'pirate' again) simultaneously in England and America. The opera premiered on December 31, 1879 at the Fifth Avenue Theatre in New York with Sullivan conducting, but a single performance had been given on the previous day at the Royal Bijou Theatre, Paignton, England, to secure the British copyright. Finally, the opera opened on April 3, 1880, at the Opera Comique in London, where it ran for 363 performances, having already been playing successfully for over three months in New York.
We have some great group booking prices. For example for a group of 45 or more, the cost will be only $20.00 each. Gather 100 people and the price goes down to $15.00 each. With full price tickets selling for $35.00--what a great fundraiser!
For all school groups we will provide tickets at $15 per student (or school-aged sibling of student), $20.00 per accompanying adult/s and, of course, a free ticket for the organising teacher (1 free ticket per 20 students).
