Queensland Musical Theatre was founded by Brian and Denise Cahill in June 1984, with the aim of furthering the cultural opportunities for people of all ages in the northern suburbs of Brisbane. Its inaugural production - My Fair Lady - was staged in November of that year. Shortly afterwards it spread to all parts of Brisbane and South-East Queensland.
Each year QMT stages two major musical productions in Brisbane, often travelling them to other centres; and incidental shows in a variety of venues in the SE corner. Not content with the works of Gilbert & Sullivan, QMT includes musical comedy, operetta and concert work in its varied repertoire and had great success with its production of Les Misérables. QMT also runs a successful Theatre Restaurant group with melodramas, murders and music.
